Commission, VAT and Processing Fees

Understand how the marketplace commission (14%), VAT, and transaction/payment processing fees are calculated, as well as the final amount paid out to your store — with no hidden fees.

This page explains the calculation principles, where to view your fee details, and how refunds and disputes are handled.

Marketplace commission (14%)

The marketplace commission is 14% and applies to your sales, in accordance with the Abotsi Market Seller Terms & Conditions.
Key points:
  • Calculation base: product amount only (shipping excluded).
  • Rate: 14% (unless a specific rate is stated on your seller profile).
  • Display: the commission appears automatically in Transactions / Payments and on your sales summaries.
Important: if a specific rate is assigned to you (promotion, partnership, category), it will be applied automatically according to your profile.

VAT (taxes)

VAT handling depends on your country, your tax status, and the applicable rules. Your prices must comply with local regulations (tax-inclusive pricing where required, legal notices, etc.).
What to check:
  • VAT number: enter your number in your seller profile if you are liable for VAT.
  • Commission invoicing: the commission may be invoiced net of tax with VAT applied depending on your country/status.
  • Responsibility: you remain responsible for the tax compliance of your listings (tax-inclusive price, rates, notices).
Tip: regularly review your tax settings and the consistency of your tax-inclusive prices.

Transaction/payment processing fees

Buyer payments are processed by our payment partner. Transaction/payment processing fees (vary by country and payment method) are deducted from sales before payout.
By region:
  • Europe: see Payment methods (Stripe Connect).
  • Other countries: depending on the payout channel (e.g., MoneyGram / Western Union), transfer fees may apply.
  • Currency conversion: if applicable, FX fees may apply.

Card fees — no extra “hidden” charges
Card-related costs (card networks, acquiring, etc.) are already included in the transaction/payment processing fees. No additional card fee is charged by Abotsi Market beyond these processing fees.

Customs duties & import taxes

For international shipments, customs duties and/or import taxes may be required by the destination country’s authorities. These amounts:
  • are not Abotsi Market fees (they are neither commission nor processing fees);
  • are set by customs authorities and vary by product, value, and country;
  • are generally paid by the buyer upon delivery (unless your shipping service specifies otherwise).
Best practice: describe your products, weights, and values accurately; use the customs descriptions/codes required by the carrier.

Shipping fees: who gets what?

1) UPS
Shipping fees paid by the buyer are retained by Abotsi Market to purchase the label and manage transport. They are not paid out to the seller. The commission (14%) applies to product amount only. Transaction/payment processing fees apply per the provider’s schedule.

2) Table Rate
Shipping fees paid by the buyer are included in the seller’s payout (the seller ships using their own method: postal service, Colissimo, etc.). The commission (14%) applies to product amount only. Transaction/payment processing fees apply per the provider’s schedule.

Where to view your commissions and fees

From your seller dashboard:
  • Transactions / Payments: order amount, commission (14%), transaction/payment processing fees, net payout.
  • Orders: per-order details (products, shipping, status, any refund).

Calculation examples

Assumptions: Products = €100.00; Shipping = €10.00 (paid by buyer); Commission = 14% on products; Transaction/payment processing fees = F (varies by provider).

A) UPS
  • Total paid by buyer = €100.00 (products) + €10.00 (shipping) = €110.00
  • Commission (14%) = 14% × €100.00 = €14.00
  • Net payout to seller = €110.00 − €10.00 shipping (retained by Abotsi Market) − €14.00 − F = €86.00 − F
B) Table Rate
  • Total paid by buyer = €100.00 (products) + €10.00 (shipping) = €110.00
  • Commission (14%) = 14% × €100.00 = €14.00
  • Net payout to seller = €110.00 − €14.00 − F = €96.00 − F (the €10.00 shipping is paid to the seller, who pays the postage)

Payouts & minimum withdrawal

Payouts are sent via the reception method set in your profile (see Payment methods).
  • Trigger: after payment confirmation and order handling (status “Shipped”).
  • Timing: varies by country and method (Europe: Stripe Connect; Other countries: transfer per chosen channel).
  • Minimum withdrawal (if applicable): shown in your dashboard or communicated by our team.
Tip: make sure your payout details are up to date (Seller Profile > Payment Information > Payment Details).

Refunds, cancellations & disputes

If a refund or cancellation occurs:
  • Commission: on a full refund, the marketplace commission (14%) is cancelled for the refunded order.
  • Transaction/payment processing fees: depending on method and country, some or all of these fees may remain due (per the provider’s policy).
  • Disputes / chargebacks: case-handling fees may apply depending on the provider.
Best practice: document your communications (messages, proof of shipment) and always enter the tracking number on the order.
